Florentine company invests in new Saomad machining center to produce custom and small-batch windows and doors.
F.lli Frizzi is a family-owned artisan carpentry company in Montelupo Fiorentino (FI), established in 1962 and now led by Alessandro Frizzi and Catia Frizzi, representatives of the second generation. The company specializes in the production of quality wooden windows and doors, personally following customers through all stages of the project.
Recently, F.lli Frizzi decided to invest in Saomad’s new Woodpecker Just machining center to expand its offer and respond more flexibly to market needs. We interviewed Alessandro Frizzi to learn more about this choice and the company’s future plans.
Can you briefly introduce us to your company?
We are a family-owned artisan company that seeks to make a quality product, personally following up with customers on all the issues they face and staying up-to-date on technical product innovations.
We produce windows, patio doors and shutters in-house, while for interior doors we start with semi-finished products that we then finish.
What is your target market and who are your ideal customers?
Our market is mainly provincial and regional, with a few bets outside the region for known customers who have specific needs.
Our ideal clients are small contractors – who handle works ranging from small condominiums to villas to apartments under renovation – and private individuals who approach the architect, seeking certain technical or aesthetic solutions. We also work for small carpenters who rely on us for the new.
Why did you choose to purchase Saomad’s Woodpecker Just working center?
I knew Saomad as a company, but we had never had direct contact or purchased their machines.
The Woodpecker Just impressed me more than the others: one cannot say love at first sight, but almost.
I liked the structure and compactness of the machine, and the working system it adopts.
It is tailor-made for my company, while other models, even from Saomad, are oversized compared to my production reality. Versatility was one of the strengths that made me choose this machine.
What are the benefits you expect from this investment?
With the new machining center we will develop new products compared to what we do now, especially in minimal sections. It will also allow us to do certain aperture machining in the machine that we previously had to do by hand.
I expect to improve the versatility of the company, being able to do even single windows or shutters in sequence without any problems, without having to necessarily make production batches.
It is a system change from the line we had before, with a totally different working concept.
Besides the machine itself, what else did you appreciate about Saomad?
I appreciated the good relationship that was established, even in the few times we interfaced, because the negotiation was quite fast and they did not have to convince me much.
I also went to see other solutions before the purchase, but none convinced me to change my mind.
What are the future plans for F.lli Frizzi?
Our plans are to stay up to date, as far as economically feasible, with the various machines, because there is more than just the Woodpecker Just.
We want to keep up with machining and give a product made by safe and reliable machines.
I am the second generation in the company, and there is already the third, my 24-year-old son. I hope there will be a generational transition, he seems quite convinced although I don’t force him.
